What is it and how do I get rid of it?Computers normally connect to an access point for an internet connection. An access point is a device that manages wireless connections for a certain area. However, some networks use an Ad-Hoc configuration. Instead of all computers connecting to an access point, they connect to each other. NC State does not use this method of wireless networking. A computer can sometimes be accidentally configured to use an Ad-Hoc network connection. When this occurs, other computers in the same classroom will attempt to connect to this computer instead of the NCSU access point. To prevent your computer from using Ad-Hoc wireless, follow the instructions on the special page we have made to address the issue: Disabling Ad-Hoc Wireless Detection
