Wireless Tablet Instructions

ClassTech docs: http://www.ncsu.edu/it/multimedia/tabletpc.htm

  1. Install VNC Package
  2. Change password. Be sure to choose a good one, because VNC will allow anyone with that password to take over the computer.
    • Click Start > All Programs > RealVNC > VNC Server 4 (User-Mode) > Configure User-Mode Settings
    • Click the Authentication tab
    • Click the Configure button next to VNC Password Authentication
    • Type in a good password twice (>12 characters, include upper and lower case, numbers, and symbols).
  3. When you are ready to connect, double click the Start VNC Server icon on the Desktop.
    • You will see a VNC icon in the System Tray.
    • You can use this icon to determine your IP address by holding your mouse over the icon for a second.
    • Note: Your IP will change each time you connect to wireless.
  4. To connect via a dedicated VNC client, simply launch the client (on the Classroom PC), and type in the Address and Port (always 43258) of your TabletPC (e.g. 152.7.99.54:43258).
    • Note: You may also have to define which "display" you wish to use. By default, you should try display "0", which is the default for both the client and the server.
  5. When you are finished using your tablet, shut down VNC.
    • Right click the VNC icon in the System Tray.
    • Choose Close VNC Server
    • Click Yes to confirm
  6. When you are finished with your lecture session, make sure you have logged out of the classroom PC.
