Installing and Running Matlab 6.5R13 on OS X 10.3 (Panther)
IMPORTANT
- This installation guide assumes you have X11 for OS X installed on your machine. If not, refer to the Installing X11 Guide.
- You will need administrator and root access to the machine you are installing to. If you do not have root access, please contact your system administrator.
Installation
- Log into the Administrator account on the machine. If this is a new machine, and you have just installed OS X 10.3, the Administrator account is the first account you created during the OS installation
- Open the Utilities folder, located inside your Applications folder
- Open the NetInfo Manager application
- Select Authenticate from the Security menu at the top of the screen. When prompted enter your Administrator name and password
- Select Enable Root User from the Security menu at the top of the screen. If root has already been enabled on this machine, skip to step 7
- If this is a new machine, or the root user has not been enabled previously, the computer will prompt you to enter a new root password. Enter a root password and then when prompted, enter your administrator password again. If root has previously been enabled on this machine, enter your Administrator password when prompted
- Quit the NetInfo Manager
- Select Log Out from the Apple Menu
- From the log in screen, select Other and type root, and then the root password. If this is a new computer, the password was set in step 6. If not, contact your system administrator
- Copy the license.dat file and the MathWorks_Panther_Updater.dmg file from the Matlab Updates and License CD to your desktop. Then eject the CD
- Insert the first install disk for MatLab
- Double click the MathWorks_Panther_Updater.dmg file to mount the disk image
- In the window that opens when you mount the disk image, double click Install for Mac OS X
- Click Yes when asked if you want to continue
- A dialogue similar to the one pictured below will appear. If the installer found the license.dat file on your desktop, click Use this file, otherwise click Find a different file and navigate to the correct file and choose it
- At the next dialogue, select where you want to install MatLab. The installer will create a folder for you by default in your Applications folder, or you can choose a different location
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- Read the license agreement in the next dialogue and click Yes if you agree. If you click No you will not be able to install Matlab
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- At the License File dialogue similar to the one below, click OK unless you have been instructed by your system administrator to edit the License File
- You will then be taken to the main installer screen. If you will be installing programs from the other disks as well, you must install them immediately after finishing the installation from this disk. Choose the items you wish to install and then click OK
- At the next screen, check the box titled Create symbolic links to MATLAB and mex scripts and specify the directory to be /usr/bin, then click OK
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- After the install, click Exit
- If you are installing from the other CDs, eject the first disk and insert the second. Then double click the Install for Max OS X icon in the Panther Updater window
- At the dialogue, click Yes
- Select Resuming an Install from the next dialogue
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- At the license agreement, click Yes
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- At the next dialogue box, click OK, unless you have been instructed to modify the License File
- At the main install screen, select the items you wish to install and then click OK
- At the next dialogue box, click OK
- When the installation is finished, click Exit
- Repeat steps 25 through 34 for any additional install disks
- Reinsert the Updates and License CD and double click the MathWorks_Jaguar_Updater.dmg file to mount the disk image
- In the window that appears, double click the MATLABR13_Jaguar_patch
- At the next dialogue click Next
- At the next dialogue, click Choose and navigate to and select the folder that you installed MatLab into. Then click Next
- At the next dialogue, click Install.
- Eject all disks and disk images, and delete the license and any other installation files
- Select Log Out from the Apple menu
- Log back into your Administrator account
- Open the NetInfo Manager in the utilities folder in your Applications folder
- Select Disable Root User from the security menu, and type in your Administrator password
- Quit NetInfo Manager
Running Matlab
- Launch X11
- Open the folder you installed Matlab to
- Open the bin folder inside the matlab folder
- Double click LaunchMATLAB
- On some installations, you may need to launch MatLab twice before it will run properly
IMPORTANT
- Do not move the LaunchMATLAB file from it's folder. If you would like to place the launcher in a more convenient location, click once on it and then select Make Alias from the File menu. You may then place the alias anywhere you like.
