The Troxler Design Center is named in recognition of William F. Troxler, who donated $157,000 to create a design center for ECE students. His donation marked the first time an individual had donated money to entirely renovate a lab or a facility. The Troxler Center was opened on November 12, 1997 by Mr. Troxler himself. Mr. Troxler attended North Carolina State University. In 1962 got a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Since then he has turned the company he created, Troxler Electronic Laboratories Inc., into a large, international corporation.
Originally located in Daniels Hall, the Troxler Design Center moved to a new facility in Engineering Building II in January 2006. The new facility provides a state-of-the-art room, giving students much more workspace to complete their projects and updated lab equipment.
Troxler Design Center is primarily used for the Senior Design capstone course. In this course, groups of students are given a small description of a product concept, and then must design and implement that product using the skills they've learned in previous ECE courses. They receive resources from company donations and others they purchase at local stores. At the end of the semester, the students present their projects to the public at ECE Design Day.
The Troxler Design Center has 28 large workbenches to give design teams plenty of room to work. The design center is equipped with cutting edge test equipment and computers for use by the design teams.
